Happy Hogwarts Holidays!

We took a surprise trip a few months ago. It was Owen’s fall break, and we picked him up at school early and said we were going to an appointment in Cedar Rapids, and then surprised him with a Hogwarts admission letter and told him that we were actually heading to the airport to fly to Florida to go to Universal Studios (and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter). You can see his reaction, and a bunch of photos in the album.
California and Legoland
Late this summer we took a week-long trip to the San Diego area and spent some time in Carlsbad (mostly on the beach). We also took a trip to the San Diego Zoo as well as two days at Legoland, and as Owen says, “a hotel made out of Legos.”
The Happiest Place on Earth
After 3 years of hunkering down in the pandemic we decided (after Owen’s vax) that it was time for a vacation! We took a trip to California to meet the happiest place on earth. We flew to LA, and spent a day at Manhattan Beach for Owen’s first visit to the ocean. He liked getting knocked over by the waves. The next day we went to Disneyland and rode just about every ride we were interested in, including Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and two time through the Haunted Mansion (Owen’s favorite). The following day we did Disney California Adventure where Owen had the best day of his life, and met the real Lightning McQueen, Mater, Mickey, and several other characters. Cars land (Radiator Springs) was amazing. After watching those movies a million-and-one times we also appreciated the details of walking through that area. It was a magical trip that we’ll remember for a long time.
Christmas Tree Decorating
Since we didn’t get to have our annual tree decorating party (stupid 2020!), here’s a short little video of the three of us decorating this year.
