Funny Card

Jess gave me a funny (but true?) card over the weekend.

When our story is told
and it will be told
in song and fable and interpretive dance
and puppet show, people will weep with joy
and, through sobs, say,
“Today we have witnessed love.
How can our lives not be bettered by this?”

Okay, the puppet show response may not be so strong. People may not be ready for puppets.

From my perspective

First of all, thank you everyone for your posts. Scott and I are truly blessed to have such great friends and family. I apologize for not posting sooner. Don’t worry…Scott has already scolded me.
I thought I would write about the proposal from my perspective… After we went swimming in the ocean, Scott told me he wanted to get another picture from the top of the cliff with the ocean and the ruins in it. We walked back to “the spot” and took a look around for someone to take our picture. I kept saying that we should just ask anybody to take our picture because even if the person didn’t speak English, everyone knows how to take a picture. But Scott was adamant that we find someone who speaks English. Finally we found our photographer. At this point I wasn’t really paying attention because we had taken so many pictures already throughout the day. When Scott came over to stand by me, all of a sudden he was down on one knee. A part of me thought that he was tying his shoe or something. But then he looked up and asked me to marry him! Unfortunately it took me about a full minute to register that he was really asking me to marry him! And yes, I did ask if he was serious. I truly was not expecting his proposal. In my defense, we have been on lots of vacations before and he has never asked me to marry him on any of those.

So once I gathered my thoughts, I said yes. I didn’t stop shaking for a while. I still haven’t stopped looking at my ring. 😉

Photos Are Up!

The Photos have been uploaded to the gallery. They might be a bit out of order at the moment and they still need titles and descriptions. We’ll get to that eventually, but right now… Scott need sleepy!

Thanks to everyone that left comments! The response was a bit overwhelming today when we got into Miami and started checking this site’s comments and our e-mail! We really appreciate it! Stay tuned to the site… Jess has been trained on how to post so I’m sure there will be more thrilling stuff coming as soon as we catch up on sleep.

And the Answer Is…

Well, things didn’t exactly go as planned from what was mentioned in the previous post. We arrived on the boat Monday and were handed a piece of paper that told us we were no longer going to be visiting Cozumel, Mexico. Instead we would be going to Calica, Mexico. So as for popping the question on a dive trip in Cozumel… that was out.

After looking through the excursion choices for our new port of call, we decided to go diving in Key West instead. I did a little shuffling and decided to bring the ring and see what happens. Well we dove… but really couldn’t see much more than 5 feet in front of our faces. Jess decided to sit out the second dive so, back to the drawing board.

Plan B:
In Calica we decided to go on a tour of ancient Mayan ruins called “Tulum.” So what better place to pop out a ring and propose, right? We took the tour and then got some free time to explore on our own. We wandered around a bit and took a dip in the Caribbean. Under the guise of taking the perfect photo, I whispered to a random guy walking by that I’d asked to take our picture, “keep taking them, I’m going to propose!” He smiled and said OK. I dropped to my knee and pulled out the ring, to which Jess replied, “Are you serious???” I just smiled and said yes, and then she did too. We then had a celebratory roll of apple Mentos.

We’ll get pictures up as soon as we get back… looking forward to seeing you all and telling you about the trip.

I’ve Got a Question…

Today we’re in Cozumel, and it’s a big day (in more ways than one)! We’ll be making our dives to the bottom of the ocean. And there might be a little surprise while we’re down there. It’s a surprise I’ve been working on for quite some time. If everything goes according to plan, we’ll be making two dives. The first one will just be a regular ole dive. Regular outside of the fact that it will be incredible Cozumel Diving! The second dive won’t be as regular. It will be a little bit special…

At the end of the second dive I plan on getting down on one knee at the bottom of the ocean and asking Jessica if she’ll marry me. Since I can’t talk underwater, I’ll have a dive slate with me to pop the question. I will also have a fake ring that I got out of a gumball machine at the mall to present to her (don’t really want to risk losing the real one at the bottom of the Caribbean). She’ll get the real thing once we get to the surface. No need to worry, I will also have an underwater camera with me that I’ll hand off to someone else on our dive trip to take our picture as it all unfolds. So hopefully we’ll have documentation of the event. Since I’m posting this in advance of the trip, I have no idea how it will all unfold so it could be totally different from what I’ve laid out… but hopefully not. The funny thing is some of you reading this might know about it before Jess does!
I’ve provided an artists rendering on how the event could potentially unfold to clarify things a bit just in case your imagination isn’t very good (click for a larger image).

Since we’re out of U.S. cell phone coverage and internet access on the boat is SUPER expensive I’m not sure when I’ll get a chance to post how it all went. As soon as I can get to a connected computer, I’ll let you know her answer. Until then I guess you’ll just have to wait in suspense!

Even though we’re on our cruise, I’ve cued up some exciting posts to show up over the next few days. Just trust me… you’ll want to check back!
